Biotrans2021 is held online only
Thank you for joining BIOTRANS 2021!
Due to the pandemic, the 15th International Symposium on Biocatalysis and Biotransformations (Biotrans 2021) will be hosted as an online conference by the University of Graz, Austria. The conference will offer poster sessions allowing registered participants to present their work in the form of online-posters including live-discussions and optionally as recorded video. Of course, there will be keynote and invited lectures by world leading experts, as well as oral communications selected from abstracts and pitch talks (selected from the poster-videos). All content will be streamed and recorded to allow registered participants to (re)watch the talks until two weeks after the conference. Especially due to the online format, we hope to reach and include many more colleagues than usual from all over the world to share their most front running research in biocatalysis. The online mode has various advantages: additionally to reducing the carbon footprint of the conference, it is also more inclusive. Facilitating personal interactions online will be of high importance to us.
It is indeed a great honour and pleasure for us to invite you to participate in this symposium in an exciting new format without borders. Special attention will be given to integrated tools allowing exchange between participants online: there will be a reception as well as opportunities to meet people at “tables” and in “rooms”, join live conversations or send messages directly to other participants or at discussion boards. Online conferences can be harsh on your neck and body. In order to keep you fit, live coached stretching sessions during breaks are part of the program. And many more surprises!
The Biotrans 2021 symposium provides the unique chance to bring the recent advances in biocatalysis research to every location in the world. We expect an exciting program covering new reactions, design of enzymes, understanding enzyme mechanisms, demonstrations of applications, computational methods, (chemo)enzymatic cascades and inspiration from biosynthesis as well as chemo-inspired reactions. A list of our speakers can already be found here (speakers).
The contributions will come from experimentalists as well as theoreticians, from both academia and industry. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the topic, we will welcome high-quality abstracts from any area related to the topic of the symposium, including synthetic and evolutionary biology, genetics, reaction engineering, biomolecular engineering, protein biochemistry, computational chemistry and synthetic (bio)organic chemistry.
Even online, it is a great pleasure to host the 15th Biotrans meeting again in Graz, 28 years after the very first Biotrans, which was held in 1993 in Graz, initiated and chaired by Herfried Griengl/Walter Steiner and co-organized with Kurt Faber.
We look forward to welcoming you online to Biotrans 2021.

(chair of Biotrans 2021) and the Biotrans2021-core team: Mélanie Hall, Christoph Winkler, Verena Resch
Did you already know that Biotrans 2021 is accompanied by a podcast? It's called "In The Active Site", and in the first episode Wolfgang Kroutil speaks about his scientific background and organising Biotrans 2021. Also listen to the update to the first episode he recently gave and to the interview with Mélanie Hall who shares additional details.
